A systematic literature review on Korean medicine treatment of keloid and hypertrophic scars was performed. Analysis of 13 studies including acupuncture, thread-embedding, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine topical preparations showed significant reports of scar volume reduction, flexibility increase, and pain/pruritus reduction in the Korean medicine treatment group.

Summary

Effects of combined herbal medicine and acupuncture therapy in primary hyperhidrosis treatment were meta-analyzed. Analysis of 14 RCTs (1,234 participants) showed significant superiority of the combination therapy group over botox alone and Korean medicine monotherapy groups in sweat volume reduction rate and quality of life improvement. Adverse event incidence was significantly lower than the botox group.

Key Conclusion

Combined herbal medicine and acupuncture therapy is an effective and safe treatment for primary hyperhidrosis and can be an alternative to botox treatment.
