Summary

Twenty-four studies on acupuncture effects in TMD patients were systematically reviewed and meta-analyzed. The acupuncture group showed significant improvements in maximum mouth opening and pain intensity compared to controls. Adverse event reports were at mild levels.

Acupuncture is effective for pain relief and functional recovery in TMD patients and is a safe treatment.
