How to Take Gyeongokgo Properly — Dosage, Timing, and Precautions
Table of Contents
How much and when?
Gyeongokgo is usually taken twice a day, in the morning and evening on an empty stomach, 1 spoonful (about 10 g) at a time. Dissolving it in warm water improves absorption and moistens the throat as it goes down.
Empty stomach vs. after meals
- On an empty stomach (recommended): Absorption is highest when the stomach is empty
- After meals: Those with a sensitive stomach who feel discomfort on an empty stomach may take it 30 minutes after a meal
- Before bedtime: Those with insomnia should adjust the evening dose to 1 hour before sleep
Storage
Because Gyeongokgo is honey-based, fermentation can progress at room temperature. Always keep it refrigerated and ideally finish it within 2 to 3 months after opening. Use a clean spoon every time.
Consult a doctor before taking if you are
- A diabetic patient: Because honey is included, the effect on blood sugar must be checked
- Prone to diarrhea: The cold nature of fresh Rehmannia (生地黃) may worsen diarrhea, so the prescription needs adjustment
- Very weak in digestion: Start with a small amount and observe the response
- Currently with a cold: As a rule, tonic medicines should be taken after a cold has resolved
When to expect results
Most people first notice less dryness in the mouth and skin and improved sleep quality from 2 to 3 weeks, and feel an overall improvement in stamina after 4 to 6 weeks.
