Q. How long does treatment for functional dyspepsia take?
Usually clear improvement after 1–3 months; for constitutional improvement, 3–6 months recommended. Combined with dietary correction is effective for preventing recurrence.
📝 Detailed Answer
Functional dyspepsia is a condition that goes along up and down. It is hard to set a period with a cure as the goal.
Getting through a period of severe symptoms often takes a few weeks, and it reappears when stress or eating habits go out of order.
So it is more realistic to set the goal at lengthening the symptom-free periods and recovering quickly when it worsens.
We follow the course by how many hours the fullness after eating lasts, how much you can eat at one meal, and the frequency of burning in the stomach.
However, if you lose weight, have difficulty swallowing, have black stools, or have anaemia, we do not regard it as functional, so please be sure to tell us at the consultation. If examination indicates it, we will arrange an endoscopy.
