Nine randomized controlled trials (684 subjects total) comparing pharmacopuncture with steroid injection were meta-analyzed. Short-term (4-week) effects were equivalent, but the pharmacopuncture group showed significantly lower recurrence rates at long-term (6-month) follow-up.
