Summary

The effect of herbal medicine treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) was meta-analyzed across 21 RCTs. The overall symptom improvement rate of the herbal medicine group was significantly higher than the Western medicine control group at OR 2.56 (95% CI: 1.87-3.51).
