Korean Medicine Treatment Procedure Under Auto Insurance for Children
Table of Contents
Filing the insurance claim for a pediatric traffic accident
When a child is involved in a traffic accident, the guardian (parent) files the claim on the child's behalf. File a report with the at-fault driver's auto insurer and obtain a claim number. Because the police report must clearly state that the child was on board at the time of the accident, you must be sure to inform the police at the scene that your child was a passenger.
Parental consent and legal representation
Treatment of children under 14 requires the written consent of a legal representative (parent). At the first visit to the Korean medicine clinic, please come together with your child and sign the consent-to-treatment form. After this initial consent, a guardian such as a grandparent may accompany the child for subsequent visits.
Treatment procedure
- First visit: The Korean medicine doctor reviews the accident details, symptoms, and behavioral changes thoroughly together with the parent
- Examination: Cervical and lumbar range of motion, palpation, neurological tests; X-ray referral when indicated
- Treatment plan: Pediatric-tailored plan — pediatric acupuncture, herbal medicine in pediatric doses, and chuna using gentle soft-tissue techniques
- Treatment course: Outpatient treatment 2 to 3 times per week, or inpatient treatment depending on condition
- Progress monitoring: Status assessment every 2 weeks with adjustments to the treatment plan
Required documents
The documents required for the insurance claim and treatment are as follows:
- Traffic accident certificate (issued by the police)
- Insurance claim number (issued by the insurer)
- Resident registration extract or family relations certificate (to verify the parent-child relationship)
- Consent-to-treatment form (filled out at the Korean medicine clinic)
Settlement of treatment costs
Pediatric traffic accident treatment costs are also fully covered by auto insurance, just as for adults. The clinic bills the insurer directly, so parents bear no additional cost. The insurer may request a review of treatment appropriateness, so we carefully maintain the doctor's medical opinion and treatment records.
The sooner a child's accident treatment begins, the better. Even if the documents are not fully prepared, please come in first; the paperwork can be supplemented after treatment has started.
